Rydal Water (in the rain)

Mappa Mundo Thursday, Sep 11 2008

Although it only opened a year ago, this bar is on the corner of the increasingly hip Place St Géry, guaranteeing it a constant flow of business. Tastefully furnished, the bar is ideal for either a subdued coffee during off-peak hours or for knocking back beers in the evening. Its only drawback is that it has a reputation for slow table service, with the result that its best to place orders at the bar. It also serves a range of snacks, such as salads, soups, pittas and New-York-style bagels.

Underworld + Rinôçérôse Tuesday, Sep 9 2008

Underworld’s new album ‘Beaucoup Fish’ has been racking up the column inches on both sides of the Channel, yet quirky Rinôçérôse might just steal the show with their hands-in-the-air house-with-a-twist – and they do virtually everything on real instruments. Led by sassy Jean-Philippe Freu and Patou Carrie (mild-mannered social psychologists by day), the hottest scene-makers on the circuit are currently riding high on new album ‘Installation Sonore’, which is as good as anything the formidable Underworld have ever turned out.

Skin Off Party Monday, Sep 8 2008

Club Mecca parties are currently the biggest and brashest in Prague on good nights, and with DJ Chris Sadler on the decks, this will surely be one of them. Be prepared for throngs of deep house fanatics swaying all night in the semi-dark and smoke of this former factory in the industrial Holesovice district. The basement chill-out bar provides recharging space and energy drinks, as does the sci-fi vestibule lounge.

Pinkpop Sunday, Sep 7 2008

The beginning of the outdoor festival season is marked by the return of the annual three-day Pinkpop festival, which carefully balances known acts with more recent arrivals. The impressive line-up includes Red Snapper, Underworld, Faithless, Lauryn Hill, Kula Shaker, Manic Street Preachers, Alanis Morissette, Shawn Mullins, New Radicals, Heather Nova, Sebadoh, Skunk Anansie and Robbie Williams. And that’s just for starters.

WMF Friday, Sep 5 2008

Indisputably one of the city’s best and best known clubs, WMF has been forced to change location several times over the last few years, after being chased away from prime, yet crumbling inner-city sites by developers. Its absence over the last few months certainly left a gaping hole in the heart of clubland, hence the euphoria that has greeted the news of its re-opening. The new location is a cavernous former post office building in the trendy district of Mitte, and the programme – a frisky mix of drum and bass (Fridays), house and electro (Saturdays) and the gay house event GMF (Sundays) – looks set to remain as invigorating as ever.
