Ghirardelli Square Holiday Tree Lighting Monday, Sep 28 2009

One of San Francisco’s most delightful shopping complexes takes on a seasonal glow when it illuminates for the holidays. Ghirardelli Square, the historic former chocolate manufactory, turns the lights on its 50-foot Christmas tree with the 36th annual ceremony in the plaza. This year’s family-oriented event features appearances by the ever-popular Harry Potter, as well as Snow White from the local production of ‘Beach Blanket Babylon’. The festival also includes live performances by local children’s caroling groups. Even Santa and Mrs Claus are expected to attend.

da CITY house Thursday, Sep 24 2009

Created by club promoter Vladimir Trapeznikov, da City House is supposed to a roving club night that is all about the music. Or as Trapeznikov memorably said, ‘We’re tired of people coming to a club, showing off their Mercedes, picking up girls and leaving. People have forgotten the time when they went out just to dance’. The first of the club nights went off fairly smoothly, although the amount of Mercedes drivers didn’t seem to have decreased and Trapeznikov was well in view sifting the queue of people outside the Buddha Bar. The next is set for the first weekend of September.

Harry Denton’s Rouge Wednesday, Sep 16 2009

San Francisco’s grand bon vivant and consummate host Harry Denton is at it again. This time he truly means to paint the town red with his new place, Rouge. Deep ruby walls decked with yards of red chiffon surround the plush new nightclub. 37 crystal chandeliers hang above the patrons in the big, roomy booths. We’re betting Cosmopolitans will become the drink of choice, but fine champagne may give it a run for its money. An eclectic menu of fancy bar food is available and Rockettes-style dancing girls will perform twice each night.
