Don Giovanni Saturday, Nov 14 2009

This masked seductor hunts the women of 16th-century Seville. Pompous and pleasure-seeking, ‘Don Giovanni’ is a character both despised and admired throughout Western literature and art, yet nowhere is he more effectively portrayed than in this Mozart masterpiece. One of the 12 productions by the Salzburg genius, ‘Don Giovanni’ is heralded as one of the greatest operas ever composed. Showcasing heedless pursuit, deception, murder, revenge and steamy passion, Don Giovanni is beyond captivating – it’s truly seductive.

Qin Yi Feng + He Sai Bang + Ji Da Chun Wednesday, Nov 4 2009

After a series of strong, focused exhibitions, Eastlink gallery stages a general display of artworks from three distinctive contemporary artists who are producing some of the more interesting art currently going about. Qin Yi Feng’s abstract patterns of linear colour are reminiscent of tartan fabric, while He Sai Bang’s austere still-life drawings and Ji Da Chun’s idiosyncratic paintings have both previously been the subject of solo exhibitions at the gallery. In the wake of China’s art boom, the question now is who can make it through the final sifting.
